Downtown Memphis has come a long way in the past 10 years or so-- there's much less blight, and much more vital development. The bums are still there in full force (see Paul Ryburn for copious info on that problem), but at least there are plenty of good places for dining and drinking. It still isn't pretty, though. On a recent walk at lunch, the only semi-photogenic subject I could find was the Vito Acconci sculpture outside the Cannon Center. Or maybe I just wasn't feeling inspired on this day...
