The inaugural version of our backyard garden had a non-productive jungle of tomato plants, a few Japanese eggplants, and more red jalapenos than we could ever eat. It's not a bad start, but I would like to figure out why our tomato plants got so huge, and yet produced very little fruit.
Not much stuff that we actually could eat this year. But we did find this visitor yesterday:
Eek!

I spent time documenting the SAME spider in our yard this weekend, only underneath ours was some kind of giant ball, that I live in fear is an egg sack. This sucker was HUGE! That is definitely the biggest spider I have ever seen not in a cage. It's friendly though, a golden orb weaver, always makes that cool ladder in the middle of her web, just to make it fancy for insects to check out.
It's just a common garden, or "writing" spider. They're really cool, I think, and I hate spiders. My grandmothers says when she was a kid, they used to say that if one wrote your name, you would die.
I have been watching too much SpongeBob with Harper, b/c i totally see Squidworth's head on the back of the spider.
Kill it with fire!
I think your visitor is much much much bigger than mine. Ieeeeeee!
